Essential oils have been taking over the homes of holistic minded people all over the world! Not only have they been spreading like wild-fire today, but they have literally been supporting health and wellness long before modern medicine (I'm even talking before The Bible...Ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians). These precious oils have POWERFUL effects that have blown me away. For example, 1 drop of Pure Peppermint Essential Oil is the equivalent of drinking 20 cups of Peppermint Tea!
So, here's how I fell head over heals in love with these natural solutions!
Am I Listening to My Body?
I originally started hearing about essentials oils (years back) through Gwyneth Paltrow's health advice. Then I started hearing Kristin Cavallari talking about them...and in my young 20's mind, I thought...okay, I want these! Let's jump forward to being an adult and not relying on tabloids to find out what is good for my body.....and the oils start appearing in all of my pilates and yoga classes! I (once again) felt oddly drawn to these little oils that cured my migraine on a Sunday morning, and gave me an instant and lasting energy boost before a workout! I felt alert, and clear minded, and I needed to know more about them!
My journey with essential oils began. I was eager to support my ongoing health issues such as compromised digestion, migraines, sleep issues and stress. I was also sick and tired of trying various (expensive) options within the Modern Medicine world...with no success. Finally, I wanted a safe and natural option to turn to!
Maybe you can relate to feeling like you're never going to figure out the solution to your ailments? That is definitely how I felt! This is when I started to research essential oils. I wanted to discover how they could possibly help me, and what I discovered was so much more. My research and experimentation with the oils led me to the conclusion that I was ignoring these very important concepts: what is the root cause, and why is my body unable to heal itself through it's innate and natural functions?
It became worth it to me to invest time into further exploring Natural Solutions that will Support my bodies ability to heal itself. As opposed to relying on the opinions of doctors and masking my ailments with synthetics! The time invested has led me towards living a more mindful, balanced and natural lifestyle...and it didn't happen overnight!
My path was not a straight and narrow road. One thing I want to highlight is that there is no single approach. In other words, if you want to make a lifestyle change, it doesn't happen with essential oils Only! If I could put a single label on How I take care of my body in a complete way, I would use the word connected. Keep in mind that I didn't say, "essential oils" or "clean eating" or "working out". Those are all aspects that contribute to my overall health, however being connected has been the game changer for me personally.
What do I mean by connected? I mean getting in touch with yourself on a mental, physical and spiritual level. Touching base with your intuition will have an incredible impact on your health, wellness and happiness! It's really all about listening to the simple messages your body is giving you! I will give you some quick examples of the messages I receive daily from my body, and how I decipher them:
These are just some of the examples from my personal life. After listening deeply to the clues your body is giving you, and connecting with yourself, you will learn to identify these messages as well! Not only that, but you will learn what they mean and how to address them!
By connecting with your body not only will you have natural solutions at your finger tips but staying healthy, fit and happy will be a beautiful result!
It's Up To You!
Through my encounters as an educator, I find myself meeting a number of women and men, who have lost trust in their own body. We get caught up in our busy lives, our commitments, in fads that tell us how to work out or how to eat, and we also get lost in the "norms" of everyday life. By "norms" I mean:
I need to have dinner when I get home from work, I need to take an advil to get rid of this headache, I need to work out like crazy to lose weight, I should go to the doctor if I don't feel right, and I'll just take this prescription because he/she told me to
These norms have been driven into our heads, and it's taken away our ability to Choose another option! Not only has it taken away choice, but it's removing our sense of control and power over how we live our life. What if you chose to eat dinner at lunch because that's when you need fuel the most? What if you had a natural solution for those headaches and ailments that you are currently treating with pharmaceutical drugs? What if your body doesn't want to exercise intensely right now because it's under stress?
Consider all of these questions! How would your life change if you took control of just a few of those things I mentioned? Would you feel more Empowered? Capable?
So you're probably thinking by now...okay tell me about these oils already! Well, the reason why I started by talking about self-care and connection is because it's all about the foundational lifestyle changes that occur when you decide to put You first... When you stop letting other people make decisions for your Well-being.
Essential Oils give you the power to choose. There is always a time and place for modern medicine, but I do believe that we are exhausting this resource without considering first what we can do for ourselves!
