"Ayurveda is not a One-Size-Fits-All System"
Over the next four weeks I will be diving into a workshop where I will learn about the principles of Ayurveda, including: philosophies of Ayurveda, 3 functional constituents (3 dosha), physical components such as bones, blood and body tissues (7 dhatus), and waste products (3 malas).
As I learn more and more about this science of life, I will reflect upon what I discover each week! But before I get started, I wanted to post about my current understanding of the topic, so that I can track my growth!
So let's just start with a basic understanding of Ayurveda. Dating back to approximately 2000-5000 years ago, Ayurveda has stood the test of time. At the very base of it's principals is it's approach to reaching your own unique state of Balance between mind-body and soul. As you can imagine, it is not a one-size-fits-all system. For example, most people know that eating whole, unprocessed foods is going to help you achieve optimal health. Not many understand that while a plate of food can be healing and beneficial for one person, the same plate of food can be disastrous for another. In fact, Ayurvedic diet and wellness regimens focus completely on Your body, the season, geography etc-Your life in your surroundings!
We have all wished we were a little bit older, wiser...perhaps taller, or more beautiful. Well, I have! I also just realized that the intro to this post might as well start like this...

Right? Who doesn't want to be a tall baller? I'm getting side tracked...if you look back to your childhood, what did you aspire to be?
When I was ten I wanted to be an Artist. I dreamed of painting on a balcony, and filling galleries with my creations. When I was thirteen I wanted to be a professional soccer player. When I was eighteen I wanted to be a Travel Journalist, devoting my life to the story. When I was twenty I decided that I would be married by twenty five, with two kids before thirty. During each of these stages (as far as I knew), this was the direction towards my dreams!
Now what about the expectations that come along with these chapters in life? What will you be? Where will you go? Never mind that...what about, will you get married? Settle down and start your career? Buy a home?
How did I get here? Can I rewind?
I find that we are generally guided in the direction that we are meant to take, especially when direction is exactly what we need.
This past year has pushed me to grow, to reframe some of my disempowering thoughts, and to become present. During this time I started to feel an immense amount of gratitude, not just for the wonderful things in my life, but also for the tough things such as negative people, confrontations and hectic schedules.
