Our baby girl has arrived and is now one week old! I am slowly working on sharing her birth story which was a little bit of crazy, and a whole lot of magic! Stay tuned for that post, it's a goodie!
After experiencing life with our little nugget for a week, we have come to realize what companies and products we just love so much. This post will include some items that we consider to be essentials, mixed with companies that just make life easier, and so much prettier! So, here are a few of our Favourite Things!
1. The Dockatot
Click here -> DockATot or head to @dockatot to check out all of the beautiful models of these Multi-functional loungers. We have the Mrs. Mighetto model, and Piper absolutely loves it! The loungers come in two sizes, Deluxe for 0-8 months, and the Grand for 9-36 months. We love that the DockATot is handmade with love using 100%, all natural cotton and with the perfect micro-climate for babies in mind! We put P down in her DockATot for naps, and occasionally use it as a co-sleeper in the bed with us when we are both going to catch a bit of sleep. Piper is so comfortable and snug in her lounger, and it's pillow walls hold her in safe and mimic my womb. It's portable and we can just plop her in there whenever she is ready for a nap!
2. Lanolin Cream
This is a cheap, simple and easy Must Have for mommies who are breastfeeding. In the beginning phases, feeding can be quite uncomfortable, and this cream helps immensely!! It is all natural and safe for baby's exposure.. and Super comforting.
I keep this little tube around at all times to use after feedings every couple of hours, and I just can't imagine life without it. A definite staple!
3. Finn & Emma Bibs
Click here -> Finn and Emma or head to @finnandemma to check out our favourite, functional Bibs, along with all of the other beautiful garments made by this company.
Piper gets messy and often spits up while feeding, and we rely on bibs to save the laundry from piling up! Although we have all sorts of bibs in the house, this particular company stands out to us for a couple of reasons. They are buttery soft, made with G.O.T.S. certified organic, non-toxic cotton and eco-friendly dyes. The snaps on all garments are nickle/lead free and feature real coconut inserts.
I find myself washing and reusing the Finn and Emma products that we have because they are just so soft and beautiful. Bottom line is- Grab a good bib and some organic, eco safe garments from this company, your babe will just love them!
4. Philips Avent Bottles
Piper is breastfeeding, however pumping to make bottles for dad to share in the experience was important to us. Our choice is the Philips Avent Natural Bottle, which is made of BPA free* material (polypropylene). I also love the Innovative twin valve designed to reduce colic and discomfort by venting air into the bottle and not baby’s tummy.
Bottom line here is, it's a safe, affordable bottle that has our babes tummy in mind!
5. The Happiest Baby on the Block
This book was a baby shower gift, and it hasn't left my bedside table! I just love the 5 "S" method of calming crying and helping your baby sleep longer.
The Five S's stand for Swaddling, Side/Stomach position, Shushing, Swinging and Sucking. Working through these strategies has been my mental checklist all week as I work to calm our little one. I can't stress enough how helpful this book has been! It gives detailed instructions for each step, and answers common questions moms have about each! The book also comes with an audio download for busy parents on the go!
6. The Ollie World Swaddle
The Ollie swaddle is by far Piper's favourite snug wrap. It's made from custom moisture-wicking material to reduce the risk of overheating (which is silky and soft). It's design also allows for the fit to be individualized to meet the needs and size of each little one. The swaddle fastens using a convenient strip of velcro, and you secure the bottom using a little elastic loop according to your babes size. The elastic loop at the bottom provides easy access diaper changes, accessible through opening at the bottom. Head to -> The Ollie World to read about the touching story of Oliver, a baby who was labeled "failure to thrive". The swaddle was developed to provide the comforting pressure, temperature and overall environment needed for Ollie to thrive, and that he did! This story melts my heart, and just makes us so happy to be supporting this amazing company.
7. Binxy Baby
Now that I am at a point where I can run some errands, I often take Piper with me. I don't want to push her stroller AND a shopping cart, and putting her car seat in the cart leaves no room for groceries etc...so what is the best solution?..this adorable Binxy Baby Hammock (oh my it's so cute). It is super portable and rolls up to fit in your purse or diaper bag. If you prefer to have your babe in his or her car seat, Binxy also provides safety instructions for securing your seat into the hammock! The designs are adorable, and they are so comfy (I have already thought about an adult version..).
Head to -> Binxy Baby to find out more about the hammock, it's safety features, testing and materials! The hammock is recommended for babies from the time of birth until they can sit up unassisted!
8. Bonnets Bonnets!!
Okay you might be thinking...are Bonnets really a necessity Amber? Umm..Yes. First of all they cover my babes little eyes and noggin from the sun and keep her head nice and cool. Also, I love bonnets because (unlike some of the newborn pull over hats)...they don't slide down over their eyes when you are driving and unable to help them. My favourite Bonnet company is called Sweet as April, for a couple of reasons. The incredible craftswoman behind this company, Carrie, has unique designs AND they are made from preloved clothing, vintage materials and donated yardage. I just love that Carrie is saving this world from textile waste...it feels good buying these little gems! Head to
-> Sweet As April Shop to check them out!
Now, since I am only a week out from birth I cannot say that I am an expert when it comes to Must Haves for the new mommy...However, these items have been really great for our little one!! A couple of small items that I might add would be a Pump, Soothers (if your baby takes to one), breast pads for leakage, face clothes and receiving blankets! Once I get the hang of things I will writing about: Piper's birth story, the items we Needed at the hospital in our overnight bag, and the amazing products that have been So helpful for My personal healing. Stay Tuned!!!
